Exclusive Interview with SocialScope CEO Amit Kumar

I don’t think SocialScope needs much of an introduction, but for those of you who are curious let me spell it out for you. SocialScope is the one true social inbox for your BlackBerry. Connecting Twitter (1-2 accounts), Facebook, Foursquare, and flickr into one super client.

This actual product is actually in private beta, and has been now for nearly 3 years. I’ve been using SS now for about 2 & 1/2 years. There’s a huge cult following of this product unlike anything else in the BlackBerry Community.

After a few scheduling conflicts he and I finally found a day that worked for us both. Friday, May the 20th, 2011 at 2pm I sat down and started rattling an aresenal of questions off to Amit, and got some provoking answers, some unexpected answers and a lot of unanswered questions. Let’s get into it shall we!

Cocky Culture introduces the Berryfication Theme!

A while back we asked Tony of  what he thought about making a Berryfication theme and much to our surprise he was honored. There’s no words to explain how proud we are to have this product for you. We won’t say it’s the best site theme cause then we’d be tooting our own horns. But it is pretty remarkable. Originally we had the 4.6 to 5.0 versions only but because of Theme Studio 6 beta-2 we have all the 6.0 versions available as well. This includes 91xx, 93xx, 9650, 9670, 9700, 9780 and 9800 OS 6.0. So hurry up and grab one

BlogBerry by Walker Themes

In a time when so many are flocking to New devices, giving up on our beloved BlackBerry, there comes a man, a guy they call Walker of Walker Themes.. He arrives holding a future of tricked out ideas. A bag of funk. And now his funk is spilling all over BlackBerry Smartphones. His latest, BlogBerry takes a idea never perfected and he redefines it.
Sharing is sexy… oh yes, it is. Everyone likes to share.. or is it receive.. no maybe it’s give.. hm I don’t know but Walker Themes is cool. I do know that. And BlogBerry is one HOT Theme.

When he shot me a screen a couple weeks ago I quickly snatched it up and saved it for future reference. Little did I know it would turn out this good. When Walker Themes introduced himself to us I must admit I wasn’t sure what to make of him. I hadn’t heard of him nor seen him anywhere before.. then he showed us a theme that was well made but I wasn’t positive where he would take us afterwards.

Well fast forward about 6 weeks and here we find ourselves with a highly complex, yet easy to use new Blog-like theme with many different possibilities for user customization. BlogBerry is nothing short of amazing.
Graphics, stunning, check. Menu’s and buttons, unique/functional, check. Creativity, and personality, check. Options, user defined customizations, check. Ability to surprise rezn when all I expect from people anymore is a swift move to some sort of fancy new Droid phone.. oh yeah Check!! So this is proof that even though so many are disappointed or expect more, want more, basically have proven that they want everything their way like the world owes them all something, have no clue what’s lurking below.. Walker Themes emerges with a strong will to thrive in the world of BlackBerry and his true thrill for the style and culture shows in the product. Sorry Droid using BlackBerry theme makers but your themes aren’t and won’t be this fun if you don’t love the product your building for. It’s like selling Toyota’s and driving Subaru’s, or something. But you should get the drift.

There’s so many neat options and ways to set up this theme, you’ll have to get one yourself to truly understand it. But don’t take my word make your own. If this looks slick to you then follow the link on through. Everything is in it’s proper place and functional, speedy, visually eye opening are included. Clearly Walker loves his BlackBerry too and so he should. That’s why we’re here too!

Berryfication Exclusive News & tidbits – week ending Feb 4th, 2012

Hello world of BlackBerry, rezn here this is our first of many posts titled “Beryfication Exclusive News & tidbits.” Every week ending we will throw this post up. Hopefully instead of keeping all the dev news to myself we can begin to share more with the world every week!
We do believe we have an official release date for the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0! Yes you read that right. No names will be revealed but our sources are some of the very best. So there’s that.

The first little tidbit is about Kisai Labs very popular Twitter client for PlayBook – Blaq! Since the last version [1.6.0] hit BlackBerry App World, Jerome & Co have been working very diligently to bring some awe-inspiring features to the PlayBook tablet. We’re not going to ruin the surprise. But a couple features we’ll let you know about are:
*TweetMarker – this is a feature that place a very attractive blue ribbon on in your timeline to bookmark last tweet across Twitter clients. and the other feature is
*Portrait View – this is a great addition, one of the most popular new features users have been asking for. There’s plenty of cosmetic changes and oodles of new treats, some better than you can imagine!

Next up is Cocky Culture. I’m sure your all familiar with the name. Tony & Co are behind many classic themes including our own exclusive Berryfication theme. Lately Tony has been working on some awesome applications (read: games) for iOS and BlackBerry PlayBook. The first game is..
*Pocket Ninjas – Your Ninja Lair is under attack! Too bad for them you’re the baddest Ninja there is. Swipe your finger across the screen to hack and slash your enemies while dodging shurikens, ditching Geisha, and ducking bad Sushi! This game is already available for iOS now here, and will be coming to the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet post OS 2.0. The other game is already 20 levels deep, and will hit the PlayBook first!
*Love Birds – Not all birds are angry! A physics based game I’m working on. Hopefully drops sometime in February! Actually Tony did let me know he hopes for a VDay release, even if the game only launches with the 20 levels that are ready to go! Pretty darn cute and fun mechanics! See the YouTube video of Love Birds for BlackBerry PlayBook here.

The third treat we have for you is about the BlackBerry PlayBook ..Well PlayBook tablet OS 2.0 [official]. There’s a lot of talk about it launching soon. I’ve been scouting around, listening carefully and can’t help but notice how little BlackBerry exclusive apps have come out lately, even the BlackBerry Beta Zone has been a ghost town. This is great news actually! I think RIM is pulling all resources into the PlayBook and the official release date will be..

BQC: Quelos theme

Blue business surrounding the wide open spaces that make up the four corners of Quelos theme. TodayPlus shaded into the clear canvas. Navigation like GPS precisely taking you through each of the necessary icons. Each hover cuts a square from the center window-slider displayed at home. Mixing business with pleasure for the high end user. Style doesn’t have to be made only for the madonna’s anymore, suits can enjoy this playground of icons as well.

Due to the high quality of product expected to leave the hands of this Developer we have brought a fraction of the score down. Most of the build up behind our intentions was for a more abstract product to reach our BlackBerry Devices therefore we must consider this and weigh in.

Allocated RAM took a small hit with the aftermath of the OTA download. Performance remains quick. Total FLASH seems untainted after 72 hours of activation. Business user approach may fall on deaf ears in an industry that is always in window-seat daydreaming of newer technology.

BQC: PB INSIDE theme

Due to quality, innovation and excellence, this product has received BQC (Berryfication Quality Certificate). BQC means that the product is high quality and complies with all standards and meets the criteria for assessment in all groups (structure and navigation, visual design, functionality and overall experience).
Details of the product, the developer and the evaluation are available below.
Traditional theme styles have gone a long way with the wisdom Theme Builders have gained over the last few years. Walker Themes uses the impulse of an upcoming Tablet and entwines it around the BlackBerry homescreen. Taking care to consider different sizes, landscapes and portraits of the non-touch & touch screen functionalities.

PB Inside is glossy and luxurious. Laid out with 2 different home areas for the end user to choose one or toggle both. Navigation is taught directly at the activation, by showing a screen to guide users on their journey. A+ B = C. Primitive yet easily learned, an open book. Movement is guided by a blue glow that leaves tracers in it’s path. A very consistent build.

Built with stock OS6 icons, this is a rare entry into BQC. However the end result appears and responds with the highest quality. Sizes, transparencies, colors ect. It was all premeditated. Well thought execution for a marvelous result. One Judge write, “I gave this one a high score because it took my breath away.” and “This is one I’ll keep for a long time.” That goes a long way in a digital/disposable world. Another Judge writes, “Normally I don’t like themes with stock icons, but they suit this one very well.”

Functionality was another level as well. With so many themes being made on beta software it’s difficult to draw lines and say no we will not accept this, or okay they’ve learned to work around these obstacles so it’s fair to judge 9800 now. This is one of the first themes we have judged the 9800 and that was a good call. Our 3rd Judge says “full functionality in landscape is hard to find in a Torch theme, but PB Inside does it perfectly.” Remarkable.

The overall experience combines all estate to captivate the judges. Walker Themes has surely gotten our attention now. PB Inside, a dazzling new product from Walker Themes.

BQC: CHRYOM theme

HedoneDesign Chryom is the product that visually and functionally meet the needs of the modern BlackBerry Smartphone user. It is aimed at users who access a lot of content and applications from the homescreen, but do not need today Preview.

Design of this product is made in bright colors, which this theme gives extra points, since the creation of bright themes is more difficult and require a higher level of knowledge on the manipulation of colors.

The speed of this theme is surprising, memory usage is low in relation to functionality, the developer has complied with all the exceptions and limitations of the programming environment for developing the theme.

The only thing that lowers the estimate of this product is the lack of support for older devices. According to the developer that is linked to the lack of support for additional features in the older operating systems.
